Joseph Yeakel was the first child of Rose Tinneny and Joseph Yeakel.
He was born January 7, 1914 in the family home at 4737 Pechin Street in
the Roxborough section of Philadelphia. He was baptized, by Father
Brennan, at Holy Family Church in Manayunk. His godparents were Andrew
and Cecelia Yeakel his father's brother and sister.
Like his brothers and
sisters after him, Joseph attended Saint
Mary's Grade School in Manayunk. In his spare time he enjoyed swimming.
Joseph died of
Rheumatic Fever on March 13, 1926 when he was only 13 years old. He is
buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Roxborough. In 1997, his sister
Regina "Jean" told me a sad story about young Joseph. It seemed that he
always wanted knickers pants but for whatever reason never did get to
have a pair of them -- until he was laid out and buried in knickers.
