When he was old enough to
go to work he worked for his father as a driver in the Sickinger Motor
Freight Company. Young Francis lived in the basement of one of his father’s
garages in Manayunk. The garage was located near the canal and river. His
younger brother William "Bob" attributes sleeping in the damp basement of
the garage as the source of the tuberculosis, which took Francis' life when
he was only 18 years old. Francis died in a tuberculosis sanitarium in
Hamburg, Pennsylvania in 1940. He is buried in the Sickinger plot at Saint
Mary’s cemetery in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia.
Francis
Sickinger never married and had no know descendants.
