Joseph
Thames, son of Ian and Claire Tinneny Thames of
Londonderry, Northern Ireland, has been accepted at Yale
University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA for the fall
2021 class. Yale had over 47,000 applicants for the
class of which only 2,000 were accepted. As part of the
Yale offer, he will receive a full financial aid
package.
Joseph
will study for a Liberal Arts degree, with a focus on
Political Science and History. He also intends to take
up a new language in addition to the German and Spanish
he is currently studying at A-Level at Saint Columb’s
College in Derry.
Commenting on his acceptance, Joseph expressed his
appreciation for the faculty and staff at Saint Columb’s:
“I’m
very lucky and privileged to be in this position. I’m
very thankful for my former and current teachers and
all members of staff at St. Columb’s,
especially Mr. Peoples who has been instrumental in
providing me with this opportunity and guiding me
through the application
process as my Counsellor. I have always dreamt of
going to Yale and can’t
wait to experience life in the USA as a student.”
