In 2021,
Joseph “Joe” Murphy Jr., raised in Gloucester, New Jersey,
USA and his partner Mary Snyder moved to Richland County,
South Carolina. In 1988, Rich Tinneny, raised in
Philadelphia across the Delaware River from Gloucester,
moved to Richland County. Neither family was aware of the
other on opposite sides of the river. Susan and Joe are
descendants of Hugh
Tinneny of Goladuff and Rich is a descendant of Hugh’s
brother John “Big John” Tinneny.
Although
the cousins had communicated via internet for several years
before and after Joe and Mary’s move to Columbia, Rich had
never met these Murphy cousins in person.
That
changed May 20, 2022 when Joe invited Rich to join him,
Mary, Susan and John for lunch at the 77 Burger Tavern in
downtown Columbia, South Carolina. Susan and John were
visiting Joe and Mary from their home in Gloucester, New
Jersey. A good time was had by all exchanging family
stories, enjoying a nice meal and drinks and best of all
getting to know each other.
Joe and
Susan are the children of Joseph P. and Grace Hanley Murphy
Sr. of Gloucester, New Jersey;
grandchildren
of James and Mary Murray Murphy of Gloucester; great-grandchildren
of Patrick and Mary
Tinneny Murray of Derrykenny, Newtownbutler, Co,
Fermanagh, and great-great-grandchildren of
Mary Tinneny of
Goladuff.
