Bruce recently accompanied Amanda Parks of Tangier Island to
her junior prom. She was one of 8 members in her class at
the little high school on Tangier Island located in the
Chesapeake Bay of the coast of Virginia. Local tradition is
that the couple goes to the island high school and have
photos taken then they march out of the school and are
cheered by the members of the island community. They then
walk to the local restaurant and have dinner for several
hours followed by a dance at the local recreation center.
They then go on a scavenger hunt sponsored by the
community. The local people contribute gifts and money,
which are hidden around the island. Each of the prom goers
is provide a paper with hints to where to find the gifts.
That even is followed by an early morning breakfast.
