STEELE Linda Rae Hathaway Steele, a 27-year Edmond
resident, joined her Lord and Savior on Saturday, the
20th of January 2001, at 9:46 p.m., from complications
due to dilated cardiomyopathy. She was born on December
14, 1939, in Des Moines, IA, to Karl and Alice (Smith)
Hathaway. She grew up in Rogers, AR and graduated from
the University of Arkansas with a BA in Journalism.
On June 3, 1961, she married John W. Steele and they
raised their family in Oklahoma. She was a homemaker,
writer and also had worked in retail sales. In addition
to being a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother
(Chi Chi) and friend, she was a volunteer and supporter
of many community services and charities. She was a
member of the following: Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Gadfly
Writers Group, Chapter BF of PEO, Oklahoma Alumni
Panhellenic where she was voted Panhellenic Woman of the
Year, 1976, Junior Hospital ity and the Society for the
Prevention of Blindness. She was a volunteer for HDSA,
of OK, Ronald McDonald House, Deaconess Hospital. Red
Cross, March of Dimes, and was a Docent at the Cowboy
Hall of Fame. She was a past chairperson and member of
the Jewel Box Board of Advisors, Oklahoma Writers (OWFI)
and Oklahoma City Writers.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and
Alice Hathaway and sister, Marilyn Hathaway Early. She
is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, John W.
Steele; and children, Cathy Killion and husband, Alan of
Owasso, OK, Christy Kessler and husband, Tod of Edmond,
OK, Steve Steele and wife, Collette of LaQuinta, CA, and
Cindy Harrod and husband, Chris of Oklahoma City, OK.
Bringing tremendous joy to her life were her ten
precious and beautiful grandchildren, Grant, Blaine,
Clark and Garrett Killion, Brandon and Austin Kessler,
Remington and Anna Steele, and Dalton and Kellan Harrod.
She also leaves behind two loving nephews, John Pawling
and wife, Mary Beth and their children, Charles and
Olivia of Ellicott City, MD and Jeff Early of Auburn,
WA.
Linda will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved
her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
Huntington's Disease Society of America, Oklahoma
Chapter, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum,
Jewel Box Theatre and Lyric Theatre.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wed.,
January 24, 2001, at St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church, Edmond, OK. Preparation by Wilbert Crematorium
under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper. |
