OBITUARY

James Whalen

1945 - 2023

James Jimbo” Phillip Whalen, 78 of West Chester, PA passed away Friday December 15, 2023 at the Chester County Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Kelly Whalen. Born July 9, 1945 in Shamokin, PA, he was the son of the late James Francis Whalen and the late Mary Rita Rhoades Whalen. 

James served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War Era.He was the Owner of WHW Construction located in West Chester. He began his career building railroads, highways and most recently fencing construction.He enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and cruising, and especially spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Charles (Lauren Gardner) Whalen, stepson, Paul Sugzdinis, grandson, Ryder Whalen, brother, Joseph Whalen, sister, Joyce (Charles) Buchinski, sister, Rita (Walter) Karchewski, many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by brother, Francis Whalen (Ellen).

Jimbo wished to be cremated without a formal service. Interment will be private.

James’s wife Mary is the daughter of John and Clare Tinneny Kelley of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, granddaughter of James and Gertrude Spence Tinneny Sr. of Philadelphia and great-granddaughter of Patrick “yankee Pat” Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland; Greenock, Scotland ad Philadelphia and his wife Margaret Malloy.
