OBITUARY

Joseph R. Tinneny

1917 - 1974

Joseph R. Tinneny

Funeral for Joseph R. Tinneny, 57, husband of Elizabeth M. (Smith) Tinneny, of 1231 Woodside drive, Conshohocken, who died Friday in Sacred Heart Hospital, will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday from Koller Funeral Home, 263 Hermitage St., Philadelphia. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in SS. Cosmas and Damian Church, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening. 

Mr tinneny was born in Manayunk, March 25, 1917, a son of the late James and Gertrude (Spence) Tinneny. He attended Holy Family School and was a graduate of the former St. John the Baptist High School, class if 1935. He was a member of Ss. Cosmas and Damian Church. 

Active in Philadelphia politics for a number of years he was a candidate for the U. S. Senate, opposing U.S. Senator Hugh Scott in 1958. 

He was purchasing agent for conduit and foundation Corporation, 4206 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, and was employed by the firm for the past 20 years. 

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II with the rank of sergeant in the European Theater of Operations. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are five brothers, James, Havertown; John, Miquon; Thomas, Bruce and Donald all of Roxborough; and three sisters, Mary, wife of Edward Haughey, and Gertrude, wife of Vincent Gallagher, both of Roxborough and Clare, wife of John Kelly, Lafayette Hill.

Joseph was the son of James J. and Gertrude A. Spence Tinneny of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the grandson of Patrick “Yankee Pat” Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland; Greenock, Scotland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his wife Margaret Malloy.
