OBITUARY

William C. Ritchie, Sr.

1937 - 2019

 

William "Bill""Mr. Bill" C. Ritchie Sr - 82 North Cape May, went  peacefully December 26th, hours after his faithful loving dog Winnie crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Bill was born in Collingdale, PA to the late Elmer and Catherine (Carter) Ritchie. He worked for Philadelphia Suburban Water Company for 20+ years and was also a lifetime member of the Collingdale Fire Dept. He was also a Boy Scout Troop leader and a member of the Collingdale Masonic Lodge Prospect Park #578. Bill enjoyed the family tradition of coming to Pierces Point in Cape May Court House since a young child and eventually started his own bait and tackle shop, Bill's Bait and Tackle, at the Point along the Delaware Bay before moving permanently to Pierces Point in 1985. The one street, Carter Road, at Pierces Point is named after his grandparents. Even though Bill's love and hobby was fishing and crabbing, as he was also a lifetime member of the Villas Fishing Club, Bill enjoyed driving school buses working for Lower Cape May Regional, Coast Cities/Laidlaw, and Sheppard Bus Services before retiring. After retirement and in his spare time Bill loved watching his favorite sports teams the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies and even some WWE with his children and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart of 25 years Colleen Ritchie, stepdaughter/caretaker Doreen Campbell, son Donald (Charlene) Ritchie, stepson Robert (Linsey) Campbell Jr, grandchildren Ryan Ritchie, Amanda (Daniel) Shockey, Ashlie (Ryan) Campbell, Brianna, Emma, and Addison      Campbell, Lance Aldridge, great grandsons Peter and Graham Shockey, dear close friends as he referred to as his adopted children Tracie Driscoll, Brittani (Shawn) Roach, Jason Garrison and Krystal Garrison, William Aldridge, brother Robert (Dot) Ritchie, brother in laws Joseph Hollinger, Kevin Hart, Richard    (Dolores) Hart, sister in law Helen (Richard) Wilson, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his daughter baby Angel Marie, brothers Joseph, James, and Raymond Ritchie and sisters Betty Harris and Nancy Hollinger, brother in laws Francis, Michael and Joseph Hart and sister in law Elizabeth (Anthony) Aquilante.  

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 18th at 2pm at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Rd North Cape May NJ 08204 where family and friends may call from 1pm-2pm. 

Flowers are always welcomed however for those wishing to make a donation in his memory they can be made to the Lower Township Rescue Squad PO Box 89 Villas NJ 08251 or to Cape Regional Home Healthcare managed by Bayada 1940 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House NJ 08210.

William’s wife Colleen is the daughter of Francis and Helen Hart, granddaughter of Cornelius and Alice Tinneny Hart and the great-granddaughter of Patrick “Yankee Pat” Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland; Greenock, Scotland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his wife Margaret Malloy.
