John was the husband of Mary Jane Tinneny (1882-1915) the daughter  of "Yankee Pat" Tinneny she was born in Greenock, Scotland.  She and John knew each other in Greenock and John resigned from the Army in Scotland around 1900 and followed Mary Jane to Philadelphia where he married her and they had a family.
