Murray & Nann Remembrance

The 53rd anniversary commemoration of the murders of Tinneny descendant Andrew Murray of Derrykenny, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and his neighbor Michael Nann was held October 23, 2025. The two were murdered by British Crown forces. The Matt Fitzpatrick Society 1916 - Newtownbutler conducts the event annually around the anniversary of the murders. The commemoration was held on Bridge Street in Newtownbutler at the permanent plaque honoring the two victims is located on the wall of the bridge. The plaque describes the incident and includes images of Michael and Andrew.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

The group gathered and placed flowers at the marker and displayed framed memorials with photos of Michael and Andrew.

A society member held the framed tribute memorializing Andrew throughout the ceremony.

Eamonn Mcphillips, Chairman of the Society, far right with the microphone, addressed the gathering and sang a ballad he composed about the murders as he does each anniversary. 

Andrew is buried with other family members in the grave yard of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church seen top left in the photo above. It has been the parish church of Tinneny descendants for generations.

Andrew was the son of John and Mary Reynolds Murray of Derrykenny: grandson of Patrick and Mary Tinneny Murray of Derrykenny; great-grandson of Mary Tinneny of Goladuff, Newtownbutler and great-great-grandson of Hugh Tinneny of Goladuff.
