Ed was the son of Mary Jane Tinneny of Greenock, Scotland and Philadelphia and John P. McColgan. He was born in Camden, New Jersey.  He and Catherine Trapp were married in Baltimore, Maryland  on August 5, 1950 while he was serving in the U.S. Navy.
