Joseph P. Murphy Sr.

Joseph Patrick Murphy Sr. served in the United State Navy from 1947 to 1950. After boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Center he was assigned as an Aviation Bosons mate at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. While assigned there he was a member of the Base Championship rowing team. He was well suited for that having been on his high school rowing team and a life guard at Sea Isle City, New Jersey prior to entering the Navy. 

Joseph was the son of James and Mary Anne Murray Murphy, grandson of Patrick and Mary Tinneny Murray of Derrykenny, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, great-grandson of Mary Tinneny of Goladuff and great-grandson of Hugh Tinneny of Goladuff.
