Thomas John Tinneny was the son of Francis and Margaret Coleman Tinneny of Roslea, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, grandson of  Francis and Annie Dolan Tinneny of Belturbet, Co. Cavan, Ireland and the great-grandson of Francis and Anne Elliott Tinneny of Belturbet.
